DANCING HOME is a short dramatic film that grapples with the very human desire to live our deepest dream. The story grapples with the dilemma of homelessness, dementia and secret lost dreams. "Don't die with your dream inside" is the message of this film and my hope is to inspire you, the audience to live your deepest dream and to not settle for the status quo.Dancing Home Synopsis:
" At a crossroads and dissatisfied with her life, a middle-aged woman is inspired by a young homeless teen' passion for dance. She makes a bold decision to change her life, reignite her own dreams and break a family cycle. While attempting to help her recently widowed aging father, she realizes he is slipping into dementia. Grappling with how to help him navigate this new chapter of his life she stumbles upon her father's secret. Dreams and dance heal this strained father/daughter relationship, and the places we call "home" inspire a next generation of dancers."
I am passionate about telling stories that have social impact and inspire and uplift my audience. I was compelled to write my film DANCING HOME because from the time I was little I wanted to be a dancer. The message I received was to always play it safe, be practical and do what you have to do to survive and live the status quo, but I always believed in my dreams. As an actress, dancer and creator I have been fiercely passionate to live my truth in the face of odds and to encourage others to do the same, (hence I am also an Embodiment Coach inspiring my clients to live claim the dreams they desire.)In my own life, I did leave home and pursue my dream of being a dancer and actress. In my film DANCING HOME, our protagonist Phoebe has not. She is in midlife thinking, what have I done?? She encounters a young street dancer that we find out later is actually homeless. The encounter ignites her own lost passion for dance. At the same time her elderly father is slipping rapidly into dementia and Phoebe is at odds with him as to how he can continue living alone in his home. In the process she stumbles upon his secret dream that he kept hidden from even his beloved deceased wife. In the end Father and daughter reveal a part of themselves that neither of them knew and Phoebe makes the bold choice to finally follow her own dreams. This story is for anyone who feels like they never listened to themselves and followed their dream. It’s also for anyone who has or is struggling with a family member watching them slip away due to dementia and the very prominent dilemma of homelessness in our society. I believe through art we can bring awareness and make change. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our project. Thank you for joining the DANCING HOME movement. This film is a proof of concept for a pilot for a television series that will continue to shed light on theseimportant social issues. With Love and Gratitude
